The Book of Discipline charges the Department of Christian Education with the responsibility of “developing standards, preparing programs, offering classes, teaching Christian education, and publishing materials” in accordance with the tradition and doctrine of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

 The Christian Education Department of St. James A.M.E. Church works under the direction of the Pastor and the Quarterly Conference.
